I would love to say that every single workout I do is structured and has a purpose. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. Every now and then, I get to the gym and don’t know what to do because I didn’t plan anything out. I don’t like just jumping on a piece of cardio to work up a sweat. And I really don’t like walking into a weight room without knowing just what I’m going to do…there needs to be a method to the madness. Nonetheless, this type of day is bound to happen. More often for some of us than others. Regardless of what YOU do, wouldn’t it be nice if you felt like you had a great workout every time you left the gym?
If you read my blog regularly, you know I love intervals. They are, in my opinion, the fastest and most effective way to jack up your metabolism. Doing an hour of boring “fat burning zone” cardio just doesn’t work the same – and in fact can have the opposite effect.
Five minutes of hard exercise won’t save the planet, pushing yourself at the end of your workout – even for a few fleeting moments – can supercharge your body, burning fat long after you leave the gym.
Here is a quick, not-so-easy, but so worth it 5 Minute Metabolism Booster:
After a good warm up, do this:
- 30 Seconds of Body Weight Squats (knees over toes)
- 30 Seconds Mini Squat Jumps
- 30 Seconds Push Ups
- 30 Second Plank
- 30 Seconds of Body Weight Squats (again)
- 30 Second Wall Squat
- 30 Seconds Lunges (right leg)
- 30 Seconds Lunges (left leg)
- 60 Seconds Crunches
