Have you ever eaten something and felt bloated an hour later? You jog your memory and can’t think of anything unhealthy that could have caused you to feel this way. ⁣

Each and every one of us can be intolerant to some of the healthiest foods out there. Avocados, apples, almonds, garlic, coconut, beans...really ANY food.⁣
⁣
If you can isolate it to just one food and the problem goes away when you avoid eating it, then your detective work has paid off. Avoid the food. Reintroduce it a couple of weeks later. If you have the same problem again, eliminate it entirely. ⁣
⁣
A big reason we don’t digest certain foods properly is because we lack the enzymes needed to break them down. Or those enzymes begin to diminish as we get older. ⁣
⁣
You can supplement with a digestive before you eat as a band aid fix, or you can just avoid the food(s) giving you a hard time. ⁣
⁣
**Keep in mind...intolerances related to enzymes are not allergies. And intolerances related to enzymes can usually be isolated to one food or one ingredient. If you suspect an allergy OR if you feel bloated or gassy after every time you eat - regardless of what the food is - you need to see a medical practitioner. Not all GI problems are related to enzymes. There could be something else happening inside your body that needs attention. ⁣

The ingredients in packaged foods don't differ so much from the spectrum of ingredients in a person sometimes! You'll never be let down if you focus on the quiet confidence of real food.

We have relationships with everything - and you always deserve the best. Don't skimp, take short cuts, cheat or fall for the allure of something just because it comes in a bright, shiny package. All the bells and whistles on the outside usually represent overcompensation for something that's not there, anyway.

There are *plenty* of foods out there that treat our body like a garbage can, filling us with toxic trash. ⁣

BUT there are also plenty of detoxifying foods out there, too, that act like the garbage collector, increase fiber, boost our mood, reduce inflammation...essentially all of the things processed foods will never do for you. ⁣
⁣
The 3 detoxifying go-to food combos I love are: ⁣
⁣
**Walnuts + Dark Chocolate: Omega 3s, glutathione, lots of polyphenols...and this combo makes you feel pretty happy, too. 1/8 Walnuts + 2 Squares of Dark Chocolate is a good snack size. ⁣
⁣
**1/2 Avocado + Sea Salt: This is a great anytime snack that’s heart healthy and detoxifying. A little sea salt goes a long way, but you don’t want to miss out of this natural flavor-enhancer that moonlights as a de-stressor, too.⁣
⁣
Almonds + Blueberries: Brain and body food that gives your body detoxifying properties and plant nutrients that help to sharpen your brain. 1/8 c Almonds + 1 c Blueberries is a great start for a snack. If you’re not a fan of blueberries, any berry will do!⁣
⁣
No nuts? If you can’t have nuts then opt for sunflower or pumpkin seeds, both of which contain similar properties as nuts.⁣

Weight loss plateaus exist purely to frustrate people and test how long they're willing to keep moving toward their healthy weight goals. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

Plateaus translate to a lack of progress and that's not motivating.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
There are plenty of reasons weight loss plateaus happen, but there are three common explanations:⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
1) Your body has a natural set point - like a thermostat. Even though you might want to lose 30 or 40 pounds, your body might be good with a 20 pound loss. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
This is almost always the point where people think, "this isn't working for me anymore." If you've seen progress, and what you're doing is actually healthy (i.e. not dramatically cutting macronutrients), then stick with it. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

Oh, and if you stalled after a reasonable weight loss but want to lose more, see point 2.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

2) The less you weigh, the less energy (calories) you need. Think of it like this, a big pick up truck needs a significantly greater amount of gas than a compact car. Your body operates on a similar principle. The example in my reel is a 200 pound person vs a 150 pound person. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
The difference in calories between these two people per day with no activity is 300 calories. The 200 pound person needs 300 more calories a day to maintain weight. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

If you've lost 20+ pounds - this means that you need to compensate by eating *a little* less of the same good foods if you want to keep shedding weight.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

3) You're just over it! You've been eating healthy and exercising for months. You've seen progress and think your body can handle indulgences. Those indulgences open the door for other habits that were there before you started. Little by little, you revert back to the way things were. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

Estrogen is such an important hormone for women to understand - but can be really confusing to wrap our heads around. Here's a quick breakdown on the types of estrogen your body produces - and the sources of estrogen-like substances that can have an effect on your body.

Even though we have dozens of different hormones doing all sorts of different things, they never stay in one place. Estrogen is a perfect example of that. As we women know, estrogen is busy doing a bunch of different stuff in our body all the time, some pleasant and some not so pleasant things.

The more you know the better you can work with it.

I'll be posting much, much more about estrogen and all the other hormones that affect us...how we can create a better balance with our body by working WITH the hormones, not against them.
